چکیده

Introduction Lung ultrasound (LUS) is a useful tool in the intensive care unit (ICU) and in mechanical ventilation it has been possible to measure lung collapse that presents after a spontaneous breathing test by measuring lung aeration loss and detecting those patients that probably will fail extubation and assessing the necessity of non invasive mechanical ventilation (NIMV) as well as those patients that fail the spontaneous breathing test as a weaning method. There is controversy whether the NIMV can help in weaning in patients other than those with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).

Successful Extubation After Weaning Failure by Noninvasive Ventilation in Patients With Neuromuscular Disease: Case Series

OBJECTIVE To report successful cases of extubation from invasive mechanical ventilation at our institution using pulmonary rehabilitation consisting of noninvasive ventilation (NIV) in neuromuscular patients with experience of reintubation. METHODS Patients who experienced extubation failure via the conventional weaning strategy but afterwards had extubation success via NIV were studied retro...

Weaning predictors do not predict extubation failure in simple-to-wean patients.

BACKGROUND Predictor indexes are often included in weaning protocols and may help the intensive care unit (ICU) staff to reach expected weaning outcome in patients on mechanical ventilation. OBJECTIVE The objective of this study is to evaluate the potential of weaning predictors during extubation. DESIGN This is a prospective clinical study. SETTINGS The study was conducted in 3 medical-s...

Analysis of Respiratory Behavior and Clinical Parameters for Successful Extubation in Premature Infants

Background The weaning process is complex and needs to be done carefully. The success of extubation in premature babies is associated with brain maturity and adequate function of the lungs. We aimed to identify the ventilator parameters and clinical conditions related to extubation success and failure in premature infants. Materials and Methods This is anobservational study, analytical and non-...

Lack of accuracy of ventilatory indexes in predicting extubation success in children submitted to mechanical ventilation.

OBJECTIVES Between 10% and 20% of children submitted to mechanical ventilation in the pediatric intensive care unit present extubation failure. Several ventilatory indexes have been proposed to predict extubation failure. The aim of this study was to analyze the accuracy of these indices in predicting successful extubation in children and to evaluate these variables according to the age of the ...
